Hedge End Carnival 2019

Each year the Hedge End Carnival takes place on the first Saturday of July. This year Hedge End Carnival fell on the 6th of July.

The sun shone brightly on Hedge End Carnival this year, as local residents, families and children lined the streets to support what is one of the biggest calendar events in Hedge End. The sound of drums echoed through the crowds as the procession kicked off at 2.15pm, where it always begins, at the Recreation Ground in St. John’s Road. Before turning into Freegrounds Avenue, Sherborne Way, Hobb Lane and Lower Northam Road to finish at Greta Park where the Gala Show will have been in full swing since 1.00pm.

Participants in the Carnival made a wonderful effort this year to incorporate the ‘Musical’ theme throughout, from fancy dress to decoration of the floats. Popular choices for musicals ranged from the Lion King, Grease, to Oliver Twist and the Addams Family.

The Funfair brought joy and entertainment all through the afternoon, with lovely decorated stalls supported by many of the local groups which can be found on our ‘What’s on‘ Page.

In the centre, the Gala show didn’t fail to entertain showcasing the traditional dog show, among varied performances as the day went on.

The Hedge End Carnival enters its hundredth year in 2021, we hope to see ongoing support for this event, which has continued to raise important funds for local groups and charities within the Hedge End community since founding in 1921.
