Paddling Pool St Johns Recreation
Date: 17th July 2020
The paddling pool is not re-opening this summer as the Council has taken the decision in its Full Council meeting of 16 July 2020 that it would not be possible to meet the safety requirements of the Governments guidance. Safety and the health of children, their parents and grandparents must come first.
Date: 8th July 2020
We regret to inform you that due to a planned disruption to the power supply on Friday 10 July, 9am to 5pm the Town Council won’t be able to receive any phone calls during this time. If you need to make contact us during this time please use e-mail and we will get back to you as soon as we are able to.
The Town Council would like to inform you that unauthorised encampment on Greta Park has now been dispersed as of 7pm, 9 July and a clean up operation will begin to bring the area back up to the standard you expect. People are requested to avoid the area for the next 3 days in line with Covid-19 guidelines for the virus being present on hard surfaces.
We would like to thank the residents for their patience during this time and to assure you that the council will look at further measures to prevent future unauthorised access.
The Town Council is currently dealing with an unauthorised encampment on Greta Park which started on 6.45pm Friday 3 July 2020 It is not uncommon for travellers to visit Local Authority land especially starting over a weekend.
Travellers are aware of the law, and as a Local Authority our powers are very specific as laid out in section 77 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 where it requires our enforcement
to be authorised by a Magistrate, unlike private
sector landowners who can instruct a bailiff for example, once the appropriate notice has been served.
Our solicitors and courts are not available on a weekend and so we have to wait until the next working day. Earlier this evening Friday 3 July 2020 the Town Clerk was in contact with our solicitors to commence eviction proceedings.
The Town Council are where possible clearing the site of rubbish, ensuring that town council staff are not at risk. We are working with the relevant agencies to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
Once the travellers have left site town council staff will work hard to return Greta Park to its normal state for our residents to enjoy.
If you have any concerns regarding anti-social behaviour, crime or vehicle nuisance please report this to the police on the 101 number.

Guidance on usage is available at each site and we encourage you to adhere to this so we don’t have to close sites from misuse. We may need to close entire sites during maintenance however where possible we will limit closures to individual pieces of equipment.
