For residents of Hedge End looking for additional support

If you are self-isolating because you are at a higher risk from coronavirus, we can help to connect you to the network of community volunteers.

They can help with the collection and delivery of essential items, like food and prescription medicines, and also connect you (remotely) with someone if you just need a person to talk to.

Who is this support for?

Support is being offered to people who are self-isolating (and so cannot leave their home) because they are particularly vulnerable to coronavirus, and who do not have existing help from family, friends or neighbours. They might include:

  • people with a serious health condition (and are ‘extremely vulnerable’)
  • people who are over 70, anyone instructed to get a flu jab each year on medical grounds and pregnant women
  • people who are displaying coronavirus symptoms
  • people who are self-isolating for other reasons

If you can get help from friends or family, please do this in the first instance so we can better help those who can’t.

If you require assistance, please contact the following community group:

Kings Community Church covering Hedge End, West End, Botley, Bursledon, Hamble and Netley.

Hampshire Safeguarding Adults

Sadly we’re already hearing of scams arising based on coronavirus, targeting isolating elderly people. In particular, there have been instances of individuals trying to gain access to people’s homes by claiming to have come to swab test them for the virus.

Hampshire Safeguarding Adults Board have put together some information for the most vulnerable while self-isolating ?

Volunteer Roles

NHS Volunteer Responders has been set up to support the NHS during the COVID-19 outbreak. To do this we need an 'army' of volunteers who can support the 1.5m people in England who are at most risk from the virus to stay well. Our doctors, nurses and other professionals will be able to refer people into NHS Volunteer Responders and be confident that they have been matched with a reliable, named volunteer.

You can help by signing up for one or more of the tasks via the link. Once you have registered and checks are complete you will be provided a log-in to the GoodSAM Responder app. Switch the app to 'on duty', and you'll see live and local volunteer tasks to pick from nearby.

Food Support:

Between 8am and 9am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, the store will be prioritising access to serving elderly and disabled customers. Between 7.30am and 8.00am Monday to Saturday, the store will prioritise access to NHS and Social Care workers with a relevant pass or ID.

Sainsbury's have been able to identify a number of customers as elderly and vulnerable based on the information they have given us previously. These details would include date of birth and if you have ever used our vulnerable customer helpline. For all of these customers, you should have had e-mails on Sunday 22nd March with information on when slots will become available.

If you did not receive an email and you consider yourself to be vulnerable, please visit the Groceries Online website for information on how to contact the store. Sainsbury's are also working as quickly as possible on an option for people to register themselves as disabled and vulnerable on their online shopping accounts.

Marks & Spencer

Setting aside the first hour of trading on certain days for our older and vulnerable customers (Mondays & Thursdays), and our brilliant NHS and emergency services workers (Tuesdays & Fridays).

Please visit to find out the opening times of your stores. Please note, this does not include franchise stores in petrol and railway stations.

Changes to opening hours
From Tuesday 24 March, most of our stores will be open from 7am to 8pm.
Stores with a petrol station will have a closing time of 11pm to allow for access to fuel. This will give our teams time to re-stock and clean, so that we can continue to provide a good service at this time.

Shopping for those at higher risk

All our stores have a dedicated shopping hour for those at higher risk and the people who care for them.

Updates on our delivery service
