Armed Forces Day 75th Anniversary

Armed Forces Day takes place on the last Saturday each June. In 2019, it will take place on Saturday 29 June. The celebrations begin on Monday 24 June when the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and famous landmarks around the country. Hedge End Town raised the Flag outside the 2000 Centre Building to coincide with these days to mark our respect and show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

Meet Mick…

Mick has been a caretaker for Hedge End Town Council for over decade now, looking after Turnpike Pavilion with his trusty pooch Sid. But prior to being a valued member of the team at the Council, Mick led a very different life in the Armed Forces. One which many who meet Mick at face value would never know.

Today in aid of Armed Forces Day, we want to explore the life of one man, among the many service men and women who walk among us. We delve into Micks’ story to find out what Armed Forces day means to him, and many of the brave like Mick, who have served this country.

Watch the video below of the full interview with Mick and marketing officer Hannah.

With Special Thanks to Mick for taking part and sharing his story.
