Dementia is everyone's business.... pass it on.
Hampshire Dementia Action Alliance (HDAA)
What is the HDAA?
- An alliance of organisations who are committed to taking actions to help improve the lives of people with dementia.
- It is part of the Dementia Friendly Hampshire project.
Examples of actions include ensuring all staff receive dementia awareness training and appointing a dementia ambassador. Actions need not involve you in spending lots of time and money. A collection of small actions can lead to big differences for people with dementia.
Why should you join?
- There are more than 800,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this is set to rise to over a million by 2021. Two-thirds of people with dementia live in the community. In Hampshire, numbers are predicted to increase by over 30% to £24,000 in 2020.

HEDGE END GOOD NEIGHBOURS
NEW VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES FROM HEDGE END GOOD NEIGHBOURS
Drivers required to take Hedge End clients to medical appointments...
The drivers are an essential part of the Good Neighbours scheme. They are a group of volunteers who can assist the group on days and times to suit themselves. There is no minimum time that the group would expect the driver to do. The co-ordinator will contact the driver after receiving a telephone call from a client and will not be offended if they are unable to assist.
The trips maybe to local appointments in the area or to hospital appointments. Expenses are paid by the group. A suggested donation will be proposed and the client will be given an envelope to place their money in which is then passed to the treasurer by the driver. The group will carry out free DBS checks.
list of drivers will be held by the co-ordinator, who will be aware of any restrictions, and will allocate the task to the next available driver on the list. It is envisaged that drivers will be
called on a few times a month.
The service will make a huge difference to local people. The group is friendly and supportive. We need a number of drivers as this is a new group which will be launching in April.
For further information please contact the group on 03330 448842 or find us on Facebook.
Good Neighbours Schemes are there for people who need a bit of help. There are 125 schemes in Hampshire and Good Neighbour volunteers mostly use their own cars to take people to GP and hospital appointments. Volunteers' mileage expenses are paid.

The Hedge End Unit is in need of leaders! Can You Help?
The scheme provides a safe environment where young people can learn as individuals, develop positive relationships with the police and actively support the community.

How can I help?
The scheme is run by teams of fantastic volunteers from the force and the local community. The Hedge End team need new volunteers to get involved and help.
You do not have to have previous experience, only an interest in helping young people achieve their best and reach their full potential.
Leaders usually volunteer around 2 hours per week in term times, however any help you can offer would be much appreciated. Whatever time you can spare would be valuable to us.
