The Queen's Platinum Jubilee in Hedge End.

We hope the residents of Hedge End will join us in celebrating The Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty is the only British monarch to have reigned for 70 years. The festivities begin with the extended Bank Holiday on Thursday 2nd June until Sunday 5th June.

We are celebrating in a number of ways including a Platinum Picnic in the Park, an official Jubilee Bench, village centre commemorative display, tree planting and a Community Woodland.

Congratulations to Jemma Melvin who won the competition to create a Platinum Pudding for the Jubilee.  Her Lemon Swiss Roll and Amaretti Trifle wowed the judges, who included Mary Berry.

If you fancy having a go at making it - perhaps to bring along to the Platinum Picnic in the Park - read the recipe here.  Hint: to save time perhaps you could buy the swiss roll, lemon curd, custard and amaretti biscuits! ;)

From Monday 30th May.

Schoolchildren from our local primary schools and Hedge End Town Council Youth Groups will decorate the Bandstand to commemorate each decade of The Queen's reign.  This project has been kindly sponsored by Minuteman Press in Hedge End.

We will be installing a specially designed Platinum Jubilee Bench to commemorate the occasion. The bench is being made by David Ogilvie Engineering Limited based in Scotland.  We will also be flying the official Jubilee Flag outside our Town Council offices in the 2000 Centre.

The Chair of the Council will be plant a single commemorative tree in the Autumn. The location is yet to be decided.

As part of the Queen's Green Canopy, we have applied to the Woodland Trust to be part of the 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'.  If successful, we will be able to plant more than 400 trees in a community woodland project. We will be inviting residents to come along and help us plant in the Autumn.
